Moving to St.-Paul

The bustling town of St. Paul, Minnesota in the Twin Cities metropolitan region, welcomes you to your new home in the big city. St. Paul is the second largest city in the state in terms of population with about 3.5 million residents in the metropolitan area and nearly 300,000 residents in the city limits itself. That just means there is more for you to do here and daily conveniences are plentiful. Explore the community of St. Paul and you will see that it is the right choice for you and your family.

St. Paul has four premier golf courses where you can go and enjoy a day on the greens. The Como Golf Course, located at 1431 North Lexington Parkway, is an 18-hole course adjacent to the historic Como Park Zoo and Conservatory. The course is a par 70 and it is open from 6 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. There is a PGA instructor available for lessons, a pro shop and more. For tee times or more information, call (651) 488-9673. The Highland National Golf Course is another great place to play a few rounds. Located at 1403 Montreal Avenue, this is an upscale municipal golf course which opened just a few years ago. It provides a more challenging game for skilled golfers. The 15th hole is the signature hole with a "Snoopy" shaped bunker which was created in honor of Charles Schultz. For reservations or more information, call (651) 695-3774.

The St. Paul Public Library is available to residents of all ages who want to learn more, check out books, or take one of the available classes. The library offers Homework Help Centers which are spaces at the library where students can get help from volunteer tutors. These centers have comfortable chairs and other amenities that are conducive to learning. To get more information about these Homework Help Centers, call (651) 266-7460. The library also offers story times for children, exhibits, college preparation classes and more. For more information about any of these things, call any of the St. Paul Public Libraries.

Positive compliments are important in St. Paul as they help morale and raise self esteem. That is why the community sponsors a "Give a Compliment" program. You can either go to the city's website and fill out a form that compliments that job that a city employee is doing or you can call the City Informational Offices at (651) 266-8989 to speak with someone directly about giving a compliment. It's a truly unique program that shows how much St. Paul cares about its community and its employees.

The St. Paul parks and Recreation Department is responsible for maintaining and beautifying the many parks throughout the city. There are more than 170 parks and natural areas throughout St. Paul as well as the Como Zoo, Marjorie McNeely Conservatory and more than 30 recreation centers. In addition, there are more than 100 miles of trails throughout the parks so you can take a hike or ride your bike through natural areas or go cross-country skiing during the winter months. To get involved with community projects that help clean up the park areas or just to get more information about individual parks, call Michael Hahm, the St. Paul Parks and Recreation Director at (651) 266-6400.
